A summary of what we did to finalise our logo, colour palette etc. (i.e., branding guidelines - to ensure a uniform look across the mobile app, website etc.):

  • For the logo, we broadly had to choose between 2 options.

    1. ‘Online logo maker’ apps. For example, Canva https://www.canva.com/create/logos/

    2. Large or boutique agencies specializing in logos, app design etc.

  • We chose the first option i.e., 'online logo maker' apps.

  • Note: Our choice was reflective of three parameters i.e., in-house skills, budget, and requirements.

  • Our initial version of the logo was a simple ‘word mark style’ logo with a background colour (i.e., the primary colour).

  • Note: You can trademark the logo (see the earlier blog 4 on ‘trademark registration').

  • Tip: Prior to finalising the logo, we also covered two aspects.

    1. Colour usage and palette, such as the

      1. Primary colour

      2. Secondary colour

      3. Light and dark variants

    2. Font style, family etc.

  • Tip: Generally, your vision for the product will guide your choice of font, colour palette etc. However, we found the following 2 websites helpful in deciding our colour palette.

    a) Material palette: https://www.materialpalette.com

    - Easy to use interface

    - You can choose any two colours from the options given. The interface lets you preview the palette and provides suggestions. Such as:

    1. Dark primary colour

    2. Light primary colour

    3. Primary colour

    4. Accent colour

    5. Primary text colour

    6. Secondary text colour

    7. Text/Icons colour

    8. Divider colour
